Listening: Plus, Negative Ends

October 31, 2011

The way people listen alters the language of a speaker. This is a helpful means, when listening, to have an idea of the response of the other person within him. As stated by my friend, who is working at a shredding services firm, people may use subjective impressions and abstractions as a result of showing the other person that he is appreciated and listening positively. On the other hand, negative listening that comes with criticism and charm will give them the idea to use concrete details and objective facts. Positive listening can cover smiles, nods, open body language and eye contact. These gestures give the feeling of the other person that he is accepted and he will learn to trust. Frowning, disapproving, staring and looking judgmental are examples of negative listening. This will tell people to shield themselves more and be cautious about everything. This will lead them to stick to just the facts and become discreet when it comes to expressing ideas. Listening and speaking is never a one-way traffic.
